Beauty ~ from the inside

hi Beauties!

Turmeric is one of the ingredients in curry and used alone is an excellent go-to spice containing the anti-inflammatory agent curcumin.  There’s a lot of talk about the potential benefits of turmeric right now, so you might consider including it in your diet when possible.  Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory, helps boost immunity, and is a potent antioxidant (fights off harmful free radicals that we come in contact with).  To maximize the benefit ~ take with a fat source and a dash of pepper.

For starters

If you’ve never used Turmeric, you can find it in the produce department of your natural food market or in powder form in the supplement section.  If you are using fresh Turmeric, it’s best handled carefully as it’s bright orange color may stain your skin and material it comes in contact with.

When I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis I started using Turmeric daily and I do believe it’s helped with some of the symptoms.   I’ll combine a little bit of honey and a 1/2 teaspoon of grated Turmeric to hot lemon water in the morning or I’ll make my Turmeric Shake.  Both are quick, easy ways of getting a daily dose of this wonderful spice!

Turmeric Smoothie

Ingredients:

8 ounces of coconut or almond milk

1 Tablespoon of coconut oil

1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon of grated Turmeric: Careful .. the bright orange color will stain your fingers and kitchen towels!

a dash of pepper

1 cup pineapple  (also helpful to reduce inflammation)

1/2 or whole banana

1/2 teaspoon Maca

1/2 teaspoon Chia Seeds

(Sweetened Cocoa Nibs delicious too ~ optional;)

Instructions:

Pour the coconut milk into your blender.  Add pineapple and banana (frozen makes the best smoothie!) and blend.  Add the remaining ingredients to the mix, blend and then pour into your favorite glass.  Top with Chia Seeds or Cocoa Nibs for all of your chocolate lovers;)
