Lemon Grove Lane

smoothies: my top three favorites

Feel rushed in the morning?  Me too!  I try to mix my smoothie ingredients the night before so all I need to do is blend and pour.  If I’m not organized,  things fall apart and I end up leaving the house without a proper breakfast and by mid morning I’m in a slump.

What better way to assure you and your family receive essential vitamins and minerals to start the day with a rich, frothy smoothie?

Plan ahead

Keep your pantry, refrigerator, and freezer stocked!  We keep plenty of frozen berries and Acai Packets ready to to blend.  Set out your blender and smoothie ingredients, toast, eggs, or breakfast oats the night before.  The coffee maker is ready to go too, along with my water bottle to take in to the office.

Balance

Choose a protein, carbohydrate, and fat to begin your day.  If you aren’t a breakfast person, that’s okay ~ pack a snack for later in the morning.  Protein can come from a Vegan or Whey protein powder, eggs, cottage cheese, or nut butter.   Choose healthy carbohydrates from fresh fruit, oats, and other grains.  Fats from nuts, seeds, and avocado are a wonderful addition to every breakfast.  Combining all three macronutrients will help sustain you and reduce the chance of a mid morning slump and snacking on something that isn’t good for you.

Blend it

Smoothies can prepared for breakfast or a mid-morning snack as a quick and healthy alternative to more traditional food choices.  Try different fruits and  liquids until you find would tastes best to you.   The options for smoothies are endless and once you get into the habit of blending, I guarantee you will begin to enjoy them.  Investing in a good blender is worth it!  I’ve had a Vitamix for years and use it for everything.  If you are considering a blender, there are a few others that you might want to consider.
