My Morning Beauty Routine

Spread the love

What is your beauty routine?

As a practicing Aesthetician working in a Dermatology office, I get this question a lot.  My patients assume that because I’m in the beauty biz that I must spend lots of time pampering my skin and putting on make up.  Truth is, I am usually in a rush to get out in the morning so my routine is simple and something I can pull together in five minutes.   If I’m not working I usually go without make up altogether or add just a little lip balm.  I have a family and busy work schedule so there is little time to spend sitting in front of a mirror fussing over my skin.

My products are a combination of medical grade (sold at a doctors office) and the rest I order on-line.  While I am always trying new products, there are some I come back to time and time again.  These products are easy to use, contain no  toxic chemicals, absorb well (feel good) and contain ingredients that nourish my skin (pretty packaging = bonus points:)

Morning Beauty Routine

In the morning I wash my face with  Darphin gentle cleanser .  It gently washes away impurities that have accumulated overnight while soothing and moisturizing my skin.  After cleansing I spray Kora Organic Rose Water or Renew Nutrient Mist on my skin.  Both products are refreshing, smell  incredible and are a great prep to my moisturizer.  FRESH Rose Face Cream and Glossier Priming Moisturizer are my current favorites.  Both are creams rather than lotions and provide hydration without feeling greasy.  Moisturizers should soak into your skin, not leave it looking oily.  Next I add a few drops of a potent antioxidant to help my skin fight free radical damage throughout the day.  There are several that I like but my favorite is Phloretin CF by Skinceuticals.  Sunscreen is applied last and I use a minimum of 30 SPF.  For more information on sun protection, please read my article – here!

In my opinion foundation is best used to even out skin tone.  If it’s applied in layers to cover imperfections it tends to appear caked on and that’s not the look most of us are going for.  I use my fingertips to apply Kjaer Weis foundation in  Just Sheer to my lower cheeks and forehead to even out my skin tone and then I blend with a dampened Beauty Blender.  Next I apply bareMinerals or W3LL People Bio Correct Multi Action Concealer to the inner corners of my eyes and around the lower part of my nose.  Contouring is important so I apply Lily Lolo Pressed Bronzer in Miami Beach around my nose, below my cheek bones, and around my temples. Eye shadow primer (bareMinerals is the one I’m currently using) is helpful to keep your color from creasing.  A quick dusting of Kjaer Weis shadow in Cloud Nine all over the lid followed by a little Generosity placed in the crease of your lid creates a no make up, very casual look for the daytime.   Kjaer Weis bronzers are also excellent and I like to finish by adding just a dab of her Cream Blush to the apples of my cheeks.  Tarte mascara is my favorite.  It goes on thick, is not full of chemicals, and does not irritate my sensitive eyes.  I generally wear a nude lipstick or put on a lip balm.  My favorite lip balm is from Sugar and I use the shade Petal.
