Is iced matcha latte good for you?

Matcha is basically green tea leaves that have been powdered.  It’s a fine powder that’s slightly bitter in taste, tastes a bit earthy, and has a vibrant green color from the high chlorophyll levels.

Matcha is said to energize without giving that over-caffeinated, jittery feeling.  A latte served hot or cold is tasty, energizing, said to reduce inflammation, and also contains antioxidants.

What do you put in an Iced Latte?

Anything you like, make it with plain water, or type of milk.  Almond milk, cashew milk, hemp milk, coconut milk, regular whole milk, or oat milk will all work just fine.

Use about 2 teaspoons of matcha green tea powder for each latte. I used this brand of matcha green tea powder and it’s excellent.  For sweetener, add maple syrup or honey.  You can also try peppermint extract (about 1/8th a teaspoon) or muddled mint in your iced matcha latte.

How to make iced matcha latte

This iced matcha latte recipe is simple and requires just a few ingredients.  You also don’t need any fancy coffee makers or barista skills.

If you plan to enjoy matcha lattes often, I’d invest in a match bowl, bamboo whisk or milk frother that will foam it up at the same time.

Begin by sifting your matcha powder into a bowl.  This is important because it clumps easily and you don’t want them in your latte!   Watch me make an iced matcha latte!

  • Sift your matcha green tea into a small bowl.  Green tea powder tends to be lumpy if not sifted so don’t skip this step.
  • Add a couple tablespoons of hot water or cold water to make a matcha paste.
  • Use your match whisk to stir until smooth.
  • Pour cold milk into an ice-filled glass along with your desired amount of simple syrup or sweetener and stir. I like maple syrup but you can also try muddled lime or stevia. ((If you don’t like the iced version, simply skip the ice))
  • Add your cooled matcha to the glass and top with mint, vanilla extract, or an edible flower.
