Growing up, I remember my mom spending countless hours cooking and cleaning, making sure that everyone else was provided for before she did anything for herself. So for this special day I’d like to do something heartfelt and sentimental.

I grew up in a rural part of Southern CA where wild flowers covered the local foothills. When I was a little girl we would gather flowers, and sit under one of the large oak trees and spend hours tying the stems of flowers together to create floral bracelets and crowns. There is one memory in particular that stands out in my mind. It was Mother’s Day and I gifted my mom a box with a (wild flower) bracelet. Later that day I remember it was not on her wrist and I recall feeling sad and that perhaps she didn’t like it. When I asked why she was no longer wearing it she replied that she’d placed it back in the box to keep it safe. The reality of the situation was that my gift couldn’t withstand the daily activities so it fell off. Years later, my mom told me that I was always giving her delicate, heartfelt gifts. Of course she would try to wear them as long as she could, but inevitably they would fall off and then I’d get upset. What’s a mother to do?! I love these stories and cherish the memories of my childhood.
Today she lives a short plane flight away so I’m no longer able to bring her wild flowers and make her breakfast. Instead I’ll be letting her know how special she is by sending a fun gift basket full of goodies.
If you’d like to make this year extra special for mom or a special lady in your life, follow along for lots of ideas.

Set a pretty table
If you’re on a tight budget or your mom just doesn’t need a thing, set a pretty table just for her! My mom loves dishes and linens so I’m using these gorgeous dishes from Vietri.
Mom likes blue so I’m using Bellezza Stone and Melagrana Blue plates with whipstitch white and cobalt napkins. Vietri is an Italian line, all handcrafted for the table, home, and garden.
I skipped a table cloth and used simple round hyacinth placemats.
2.
Prepare her favorite brunch, meal, or dessert
My mom enjoys cuisine on the lighter side so I prepared a simple frittata, lemon ricotta blueberry muffins, and a yogurt parfait layered with dark chocolate granola and fresh farmers market berries.
3.
Flowers always
Check your local market to see what flowers are available. If you are looking for something specific, it’s likely it can be ordered for you! I used a large and small fluted vase, also from Vietri , for a simple floral arrangement and made a separate bouquet for mom to take home.
4.
Create a gift basket
This was so much fun and the perfect idea if you are on a budget! My mom is always making lists so I decided to create a blush-themed basket filled with items she could use daily. Note pads, journals, a pretty pink pen, candle, and a luxurious rose soap from the
