When it comes to holiday entertaining, I always like to have a few appetizers that look special but don’t require a lot of time in the kitchen. This baked Brie is one of those recipes.
A wheel of creamy Brie is baked until warm and soft, then topped with sweet fig jam and crispy prosciutto. The combination of sweet and savory is so good, and the Ritz crackers are just right for scooping up all that melted cheese.
I love serving this on a pretty platter with the crackers arranged around the cheese. It makes such a nice presentation for Thanksgiving or Christmas gatherings, and it’s something you can have ready in just a few minutes.
What You’ll Need
You only need a handful of ingredients for this appetizer. Start with a wheel of Brie, fig jam, prosciutto, and Ritz crackers. I like to crisp the prosciutto separately before adding it to the cheese. It gives the finished appetizer a little texture and keeps the prosciutto from becoming soft in the oven.
How to Make Baked Brie
Start by placing the Brie in a small oven-safe dish and baking it until the center is soft and creamy. While it bakes, crisp the prosciutto in a skillet.
Once the Brie comes out of the oven, spoon the fig jam over the top and finish with the crispy prosciutto. Add a little fresh thyme if you like, and arrange Ritz crackers around the dish for serving.
That’s really all there is to it!
Serving Suggestions
This baked Brie is best served warm, right out of the oven. I like to place it on a serving board with plenty of Ritz crackers so everyone can help themselves.
It’s a lovely addition to a Thanksgiving appetizer spread, but it would be just as nice for Christmas entertaining or a casual evening with friends.
If you’re looking for an easy appetizer that feels a little special without spending much time preparing it, I think you’ll love this one.
Fig & Prosciutto Baked Brie
Ingredients
- 1 (8-ounce) wheel of Brie cheese
- 1/4 cup Fig Jam
- 2-3 slices prosciutto
- 1/2 cup Ritz crackers, crushed
- 1 tablespoon of melted butter or olive oil
- Additional Ritz crackers for serving
- Thyme or Rosemary for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Place Brie on a round piece of parchment paper on a baking tray. You can also use an oven safe baking dish. Score the top of the Brie (four lines in each direction).
- Prepare the proscuitto. Heat a small skillet over medium heat (no oil needed). Add 3 slices of proscuitto and flip when it begins to get crispy - about a minute or so per side. Transfer to a paper towel and cool. Once cool, chop and set aside.
- Spread the fig jam over the top of the Brie. Sprinkle with crispy proscuitto.
- Toss 1/2 cup crushed Ritz crackers with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Sprinkle over the Brie.
- Bake at 350 degrees F. for about 12-15 minutes until the Brie is soft and the cracker topping is golden.
Notes
Don't overbake the prosciutto. The goal is to simply warm the toppings and soften the Brie.
