I’m starting to bring a little fall into the house, and this is one of my favorite simple ways to do it.
Dried apples, oranges, cinnamon, and warm spices simmering on the stove make the whole house smell like fall. This year, I decided to make little simmer pot kits to give as gifts.
Ingredients
- Dried apple slices
- Dried orange slices
- Cinnamon sticks
- Star anise
- Whole cloves
I love the combination of the dried fruit and warm spices, and the star anise adds the prettiest little touch.
How to Make the Simmer Pot Gift Bags
Layer the dried ingredients into a cellophane bag. I like to arrange a few pieces of each ingredient so the bags look pretty and colorful.
Tie the top of each bag with twine and add a little gift tag with instructions for using the simmer pot.
These make such a simple and thoughtful fall gift. Give one to a neighbor, bring one along as a hostess gift, or leave one on a friend’s doorstep as a little surprise.
How to Use
Empty one simmer pot bag into a small saucepan and cover with water.
Bring to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat and let it slowly scent your home. Add more water as needed to keep the ingredients covered.
Never leave a simmer pot unattended, and turn it off when you leave the house or go to bed.
You can also add fresh cranberries, extra cinnamon sticks, or other favorite fall spices.
A simple little gift that smells like fall and makes home feel a little cozier. I think these might become a new fall tradition around here.
