As we approach Christmas, it’s the perfect time to embrace the warmth and joy of the season. From decorating our homes to curating our holiday wardrobes and whipping up delicious treats, there’s so much to share! Here’s how I’m getting into the festive spirit this year.
Festive Touches
This year I’ve added lots of red and embraced that nostalgic 80s vibe, creating a cozy, unique and fun atmosphere.
- DIY Ornaments:Here are some creative ideas to inspire your DIY ornament-making:
- Salt Dough Ornaments: Mix flour, salt, and water to create a dough. Cut out fun shapes using cookie cutters, and once baked, you can paint or decorate them with glitter and ribbons.
- Photo Ornaments: Print small photos of family and friends, then attach them to wooden circles or clear plastic baubles. Add a touch of paint or glitter around the edges for a festive look!
- Nature-Inspired Ornaments: Collect pinecones, acorns, or dried oranges. Tie a ribbon around them or spray paint them in gold or silver for a chic, rustic touch.
- DIY paper garland: Paper chain garlands add so much cozy, handmade charm to your home. It’s a simple and festive way to add a variety of textures, colors, & patterns to any space. Simply cut ribbons in 8 inch pieces and link together with glue or staples. So easy and the kids can help!
- Glitter Glass Balls: Fill clear glass ornaments with a mix of glitter and Epsom salt. The result is a sparkling, snowy effect that looks beautiful on the tree.
- Personalized Name Tags: Cut out wooden or cardboard shapes and write each family member’s name on them. These can double as place cards for your holiday table!
- Kids’ Handprints: Use non-toxic paint to create handprint ornaments. A simple handprint shape can be turned into a reindeer or snowman with a bit of creativity.
- String Lights: Draped wherever I can find a spot! They instantly create a cozy ambiance, especially during those chilly, dark winter days.
Seasonal Centerpieces: A simple arrangement of pine cones, satsumas and tangerines, candles, and fresh or faux greenery on the dining table brings the outdoors in. I usually keep the fresh greenery in a vase filled with water or outdoors to keep it from drying out. Faux garland is on the mantle and in the kitchen.
Cozy Corners
Creating cozy spaces is essential. My vintage cabinet is fun to change up seasonally. This blue container and small table top tree works perfectly here. The star banner can be found here.
I didn’t have a spot for our Christmas cards this year so I hung them on garland with clothes pins.
