how to make green cleaning simple

Over the years I’ve been transitioning from traditional cleaning materials to natural, green cleaning products.  This topic is one of my top searched subjects so here I’m here again, sharing how to make green cleaning simple.

Most of us realize the consequences of using toxic products in our homes and because of that, reach for an alternative when restocking is necessary.

It used to be that the natural, green products were so pure and gentle and that they just didn’t get the job done.  Nowadays things are different and there are lots of effective, environmentally friendly cleaning products available that do a great job of cleaning.

Sometimes it’s still confusing when it comes to reading labels.  To make it easier I purchase my home cleaning products on-line, Amazon, Target, and my favorite – Grove Collaborative.

What’s the buzz about Grove Collaborative?

✦ 100% carbon neutral shipments
✦ Sustainable materials
✦ Reduce plastic waste
✦ Cruelty-free products
✦ Ingredient transparency

..and there’s more!

The prices don’t go up and down, the company keeps things fairly stocked so I can purchase what I need without waiting, and I don’t need to pay shipping with my standard order.  Sometimes on-line stores can have minimum monthly purchase situation.  This means that you must spend a certain amount of $$ each month to receive products at a discount.  Not the case with Grove Collaborative.  You can purchase what you need – when you need it.  When you make your first $20 purchase, you receive a few free items with your order.

What’s in my shopping cart?

Mrs. Meyer’s cleaning products: I use the spray for my marble counters and the inside of my refrigerator.  It’s helpful to use a magnetic cleaning cloth to lift dirt.  My favorite are the Norwex glass, dusting, and cleaning cloths.  Whereas sponges and cotton tend to push dirt around, the magnetic fibers in the Norwex cloth actually pick up the dirt.  Bonus point: they last forever!

Laundry Detergent: I am hooked on the lavender and rosemary concentrated detergent.  It’s easy on the clothes and my linen sheets while still being tough on dirt, grime, and odors.  Make sure to buy the dispenser along with the refills.  It’s a great deal and then all you need to do is purchase the refill containers as needed.  I also like the wrinkle release spray. It’s great if I don’t have time to pull out my iron.

Dryer balls are the best!  They cut down on dry-time about 30% an help remove static from linens and clothing items.  I seldom use fabric softener but if I do it’s Mrs. Meyers and I usually dilute it.

Hand Soap: Same with the hand soap!  Gentle on hands, gets the job done, and bonus point for smelling good too! Sometimes I change the scent seasonally.  You choose your favorite!

A caddy is helpful to carry your cleaning supplies.  The Grove Collaborative caddy is one of my favorites and they sometimes include one in their bundles.

My favorite bathroom cleaning products: Method Toilet Cleaner and the Anti Bacterial bathroom spray.  Both leave our powder room sparkly clean and fresh smelling.  There may be occasions when bleach is necessary but most of the time this is all you need.  Too much harsh cleaning can also result in damage to rubber and surface finishes.  Gently clean when you can!
