Wreaths: We are still seeing chilly temperatures and will continue to have rain through the month of May so I’ve kept our decor very simple. I started with flowery wreaths on the door.  I bought these last year and packaged them up for the winter.  Some decor doesn’t need to be purchased new every season and wreaths are one of those items.  Consider decorating your front door with an elegant wreath with cflowers in various shades of green along with a burlap bow and moss-covered monogram. Check out this “Louisa” wreath that can be found on Etsy!

Door Mat: As we were pressure washing the pavers my husband picked up the door mat and it was ripped .. so that needed to be replaced.  Honestly I’ve purchased door mats that are $25 to $65 and they seem to all be the same.  So with that in mind, I’d recommend not spending a lot on a doormat.  Layering always adds warmth and makes the entry feel extra welcoming so I layered with an outdoor rug.  Love the look and should last all year.

Bench or Chairs:  My husband wanted a sitting area by the door to remove muddy boots so we purchased a stone bench a few years ago.  Sometimes I place potted herbs or flowers here.

We have a pavered area on the side of the entry that’s perfect for sitting at the end of the day.  There, I put two Adirondack chairs with lumbar pillows.

Pottery or Urns: I have two vintage urns in the front and right now they contain whispy grass and pansies.  I change the contents up seasonally.

Flowers, flowers, flowers: We don’t usually start planting until mid-may because the temperatures can still dip down to freezing.  That said we are all anxious to start with something so the best choices are bulbs and hearty violas or pansies.  Ranuculous are also available and they are a beautiful addition. This full view of our home was captured by @rerocketymedia and I loved it so much I wanted to add it to my blog post.   Spring here in the pacific northwest is often rainy and chilly so we don’t normally see too much plant growth for another month or so.  The wisteria is waiting for warmer days and the branches on are still in the budding phase.  By July, our front windows will be blocked by lots of lush green leaves and flowers.  It’s a beautiful view, indoors and out.

  1. Great suggestions Leslie! I bought a couple large wreaths from Grandin Road over the last year that are really pretty. I just love your house, I think this is the first time I have seen a photo of the entire front . We are hoping to do a remodel in a couple years after my husband retires. I tore a photo out of a magazine of a home that looks very similar to yours with white siding.
