What you’ll notice:
Rich, deep chocolate flavor without an artificial sweetness like the store bought version. I like my by with a buttery crust. You can also use an Oreo crust if that’s your preference. This pie is simple to make and can be prepared ahead of time making it the perfect option for entertaining. You can prep time by using Cool Whip instead of whipping your own cream. If you whip your cream, you can adjust the sweetness (bonus).
Full disclosure, I come from a long line of chocolate-lovers. My Mom, Gramma, and down the line, all loved chocolate. If I’m going to have a treat, I go all the way :) This Decadent French Silk Pie satisfies the chocolate craving.
What’s the difference between a chocolate pie and French Silk pie?
I believe the difference is the texture. After melting chocolate and sugar, you’ll fold in whipping cream. This gives the pie a silky texture.
The Filling:
You’ll mix the eggs and sugar and whisk stove top. I recommend reading the recipe prior to starting. You’ll need a candy thermometer to get the egg and sugar mixture to the right temperature. Use bittersweet baking chocolate in this recipe. This will give the pie the rich, decadent flavor. I recommend high quality chocolate over chocolate chips.
Pie Toppings:
You may use Cool Whip however I recommend making your own whip cream. To make chocolate curls, spread a thin layer of melted chocolate on the back of a cookie sheet. When it’s set, use a bench scraper to form chocolate curls. Here’s a video if you need a visual. This isn’t as simple as it looks .. so you can also simply chop up chocolate pieces and add them to the top :of your pie.
Make sure to use a candy thermometer for this recipe.
