How to make oatmeal chocolate chip energy balls

chocolate chip energy balls

My no bake oatmeal chocolate chip energy balls are perfect for those moments when you are craving something sweet and are trying to stay within healthier parameters.  Warning though .. it’s tough to stop at one!  As an added bonus, these are tasty enough that even the kids will enjoy them.  After trying several “glow” or “energy ball” recipes I decided to make mine with a few of my favorite ingredients (of course chocolate is included;)  Most of the recipes I tried were either too dry or not sweet enough.  If I am going to share a recipe with you it has to be taste tested and even the fussiest eater will like them.

How to make Chocolate Chip Energy Balls: What you’ll need

Peanut butter: I used creamy peanut butter but you can use whatever nut butter you’d like.

Honey: If you’d like to cut back on the honey, add a little less.

Dark chocolate chips: Mini dark chocolate chips would be perfect for this recipe.  I didn’t have them so I used regular size dark chocolate chips.  For my dark chocolate I use 70% chocolate.

Oatmeal: I used regular organic rolled oats from Bob’s Red Mill.

Hemp Seeds: High in fiber and excellent source of iron, magnesium, and zinc, and protein.

Chia powder:  My favorite brand is Navitas. Use chia powder rather than seeds.  Chia seeds are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, rich in antioxidants,  fiber, iron, and calcium. Omega-3 fatty acids that help to keep our HDL or “heart healthy” cholesterol, higher to help protect us from heart attack and stroke.

Ground flax seeds: I use Spectrum cold milled organic ground Flaxseed. Flax has a nutty taste and is loaded with fiber and rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids.
