The Best Guacamole Ever!
We eat lots of avocado here at Lemon Grove Lane so with Cinco de Mayo coming up I thought I’d share our favorite guacamole recipe. Spice it up with chopped Jalapeno pepper and add chunks of tomato, fresh cilantro, and a wedge of lime. Oh, and don’t forget to pick up a bag of your favorite tortilla chips!
Four Fun Facts About Avocados:
Avocado is one of my favorite fruits. Yes you heard it right! Avocados are considered a fruit and more specifically a berry because of their fleshy pulp and seed.
Avocados are packed full of potassium, almost twice as much as a banana.
For a fruit, avocado is one of the highest in protein. A single avocado contains about 4 grams of protein. That’s equivalent to about 1/4 cup of cottage cheese or a couple bites of meat, chicken, or fish.
If you want to ripen you avocado quickly, try placing it in a paper bag with an apple!
If you’d like a little kick to your guacamole, chop up Jalapeno peppers and add them to them to your mashed avocado. Serrano peppers work too if your preference is for something a bit more mild. Either way … DO NOT chop the peppers and touch your eyes or lips until after you’ve washed your hands. Guacamole needs to be salty to cut the spice. I like to add a flavorful, course salt like Le Guerandais.

Guacamole
This is the BEST GUAC ever! I love the big chunks of fresh tomato and the spicy jalapeno flavor. Always use the freshest ingredients for the best flavor!
- 4 ripe avocados
- 2 serrano chili
- 1 or 2 jalapeno chili
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro plus extra for topping
- 1/2 squeezed fresh lime or more if needed
- 1/2 -1/3 cup chopped onion (try yellow, purple, or a combination of the two)
- garlic optional
-
Cut avocados in half. Remove pits and place in a large bowl. Squeeze lime juice over the avocados and then mash with a potato masher or fork.
-
Slice the serrano and jalapeno chili and removing stems and seeds. Chop into small pieces taking care not to touch your face or eyes during the process. Wash hands.
-
Chop onion into small pieces and set aside.
-
Slice tomato into small chunks and add to the mashed avocado bowl.
-
Stir in chili peppers, diced onion, and chopped cilantro.
-
Add salt to taste.
-
Give everything a stir and scoop out into your favorite serving bowl

He Leslie, I love anything avocado, especially guacamole! I am usually lazy and just add some fresh salsa to my avocados to make it but your recipe looks really good.I will have to try it next time. I keep a box of latex gloves in the kitchen for chopping peppers. :)
Cinco de Mayo was my wedding anniversary to my 1st husband. (we didn’t pick that date on purpose, it was the only one available for the venue we wanted)
