Tips for making the best French toast:

  • Start with bread that’s not fresh. At the end of every week I always have leftover sourdough bread. Instead of tossing it, we make French toast! It tastes so yummy after a long hike or run.
  • I use a cast iron skillet for frying my French toast. Be careful with the temperature, they get super hot!
  • Once your skillet is hot, reduce the temperature to make sure the center of your bread is cooked through.
  • Keep your french toast warm on a covered plate in a preheated oven. Make sure the setting on your oven is low!
  • Prior to serving, top with a pat of butter, sliced bananas, chopped walnuts, and then a drizzle of maple syrup or honey.
